NATIONAL SPORTSHALL FINAL 

Having qualified for the national final both Derbyshire's u13 & u15 girls teams finished in 4th place in Stoke on 12th April.
There was a win for Honora Widdowson in the u13 girls 6 lap, Lottie Mole took 2nd place in the u13 grls 2 lap & in the 4 lap there was an 8th place for Bella Egley. There was also a win for Lottie in the standing long jump where Honora was 16th. Kyrie Turner took 8th in the shot, in the speed bounce Martha Smith was 17th & Jessica Sanderson was 15th in the standing triple jump.
In the u15 girls shot Mazie Taylor was 2nd, she was also 26th in the 4 lap & =18th in the vertical jump. Antoniah Kinsiona was =3rd in the SLJ, =27th in the SB & =5th in the 2 lap. There was a 16th for Erin Forde in the 2 lap, =15th in the SB and =20th in the VJ. Jeanie Cadman was =13th in the VJ, 29th in the SB & 22nd in the 2 lap. MINI LEAGUE REPORT

The first match of the 2025 track & field season took place at Moorways, Derby on Saturday 5th April and saw us take 3rd place behind Amber Valley & Erewash and Derby AC.

Isla Gilbert took top honours in the u11 girls 75m where there was an =2nd place for Leah Hill. Over 150m Nouelle-Soul Foster Applewhite took 2nd place with Isla in 5th. In the Howler Javelin Leah & Nouelle were 4th & 5th before teaming up with Isla and Eleanor Siderius to win the 4x100m relay.

Benjamin Barfoot won the u13 boys 100m & 200m with Tobi Duke in 4th and 2nd respectively. There was also good early season form in the sprints from Alex Ganecki, Jacob Campbell and Jenson Euchas-Coyle. Alfie Wearing won the Discus with Christopher Devine 3rd and in the 800m Philip Grzelak placed 3rd with Christopher 7th and Oscar Siderius and Lucas Melen also competing in this event. In the HJ Benjamin & Tobi were 3rd & 4th. Alfie took 3rd in the Shot with Philip 4th.

Jessica Sanderson & Kyrie took wins in the u13 girls events, Jess in the 200m and Kyrie in the Discus. Over 200m Martha Rose Smith was 2nd and in the Discus Gabriella Whelpton was 4th. Francesca Mayers was 3rd in the Hurdles, Ruby Thomson was 2nd in the 100m with Jess 3rd & Martha was 4th over 800m with Ruby 7th and Lacey Lloyd one place behind. In the Long Jump there was a 3rd place for Jess with Martha 5th and in the Shot Kyrie & Coral Wilson were 2nd & 4th.

Antoniah Kinsiona won the u15 girls sprint double with Lottie Mole 2nd in the 100m & Bella Egley 2nd in the 200m. Honora Widdowson won the 800m and was 2nd in the Hurdles with Ruby Whelpton 6th in the 800m. There was also a win for Sophie Kelley in the HJ with Freya Curtis 5th. Emily Ross was also a winner, in the Discus where Faith Baines was 3rd. Faith took 22nd in the Shot with Emily 4th.

For the u15 boys Oscar Melen was 3rd in the Discus & 5th in the Shot. Zachary Mayers & Freddie Elsmore were 4th & & 7th over 100m before placing 6th & 7th over 200m and 7th & 8th in the Long Jump. A full set of results will be posted on our Facebook page are available at Results Lookup

SPORTSHALL SUCCESS

The final match of this winter's Derbyshire Sportshall League saw us take the overall title having won 5 out of the 6 matches. We took the win in this match ahead of AVEAC, High Peak & Derby. Thre was also a new league record set by Lottie mole & Honora Widdowson in the u13 girls 8 Lap Parlauf.

Lottie Mole & Jessica Sanderson were 1-2 in the u13 girls 2 Lap with Benjamin Barfoot & Tobi Duke 2nd & 3rd for the boys. Benjamin & Tobi then teamed up for the 8 Lap Parlauf win. Lottie took her hat-trick of wins in the SLJ where Emily Hayter was 3rd, Edward Thorpe & Oscar Siderius were 5th & 6th for the boys. Kyrie Turner & Oscar Melen won the Shot events, Emily Ross was 2nd for the girls and Edward 3rd for the boys. Martha Rose Smith won the SB with Tobi Duke =1st for the boys, Emily  & Edward took 3rd places in this event. The u13 girls also took a 4x2 Lap relay win.

Ruby Thomson won the u11 girls 1 Lap with Emily Molloy in 4th with the same 2 athletes 2nd & 3rd in the 3 Lap. Jessica Hayter was 3rd in the Hi-Stepper where Isla Gilbert was 5th, Ruby was 5th in the Standing Long Jump (SLJ) & Emily 3rd in the Speed Bounce (SB) where Leah Hill was =4th with Ella Pudil. For the boys Christopher Devine was 2nd in the SLJ with Alfie Wearing 6th, Alex Ganecki was 6th in the SB with Alfie 7th and in the Hi-Stepper Alfie was 4th and Lucas Melen 5th. On the track Jacob Campbell and Alex were =3rd in the 1 Lap with Alex 2nd in the 3 Lap where Christopher was 5th. Both of our u11 teams won their 4x1 Lap relays.

Antoniah Kinsiona won the u15 girls 2 Lap with Jeanie Cadman in 4th, Antoniah was also 2nd over 4 Laps with Holly Buckley in 4th. Jeanie & Antoniah were 1-2 in the SLJ as were Mazie Taylor and Sophie Kelley in the Shot and Niamh Kilroy & Emily Marathalingam in the SB. The u15 girls also won the 4x2 Lap relay. Solomon Birkill was =3rd in the u15 boys 2 Lap with Chris Hall in 5th. Over 4 Laps Chris was 4th & Zachary Mayers 5th. Solomon also took 3rd in the SLJ with Zac Booth 4th and in the Shot Dylan Leong was 3rd & Zac 4th. Zachary took 2nd in the SB where Solomon was 3rd.

SCOTTISH CHAMPS

Beth Falconer made the trip to Glasgow on 9th March for the Scottish Indoor Senior Championships where she took pole vault bronze with a height of 3.19m. Also in indoor action over the weekend was Mark Beer who high jumped 1.76m to win his pool at the Manchester Open.

SPORTSHALL, REGIONAL FINALS

Saturday 1st March saw a very competitive East Midlands Regional Finals in Grantham with the Fun in Athletics for the u11's & a chance for the Derbyshire teams to compete in the National Finals for the u13's & 15's. A number of the clubs athletes were selected and fared as follows;

Derbyshire won the u15 girls section with Mazie Taylor finishing 2nd in the all-rounder category with a win in the Shot, 2nd place in the Vertical Jump (VJ) and 8th over 4 Laps. Antoniah Kinsiona won the 2 Lap where Erin Forde was 2nd and Jeanie Cadman 3rd.

The u13 girls were also winners with Lottie Mole winning the 2 Lap & Standing Long Jump (SLJ). Emily Hayter won the Standing Triple Jump (STJ), Honora Widdowson won the 6 lap, Bella Egley was 5th over 4 laps and Kyrie Turner 3rd in the Shot.

The u15 boys were 2nd with Solomon Birkhill 3rd overall with his 2nd in the Speed Bounce (SB), 3rd over 2 Lap & 5th in the SLJ. Zachary Mayers also competed in 3 events, finishing 6th in the SB. Derbyshire's u13 boys were 3rd. Oscar Melen won the Shot, Tobi Duke took 2nd in the SB, Philip Grzelak took 8th in the 6 lap & Benjamin Barfoot took 6th in both of his events.

The counties u11 girls won their competition with Isla Gilbert winning the Target Throw (TT), with Leah Hill in 7th, Ruby Thompson 3rd in the VJ and Lily Rogers & Emily Molloy 7th and 11th in the Balance Test. Derbyshire's u11 boys finished 3rd with Christopher Device 2nd in the Speed Bounce, Jacob Campbell was also 2nd in the TT, Alex Ganecki 6th in the Chest Push with Christopher 8th and Kobi Barraclough 12th in the VJ.

BRITISH UNIVERSITY CHAMPIONSHIPS

Nathan Gavaghan revised his 60m pb twice in Sheffield on the weekend of 14-16th February at the BUCS Indoor Championships. Nathan raced to 7.04secs in is heat to finish 3rd before breaking 7 seconds in the semi final where he finished 5th in 6.98secs. Also in action was Beth Falconer who was 6th in the pole vault with a height of 3.23m.

INDOOR ROUND UP

Lottie Hall competed at the England Athletics u15/17/20 Championships at the EIS in Sheffield on 8/9th Feb. Competing in the u20 women's pole vault Lottie finished 9th, with a seasons equalling best of 2.70m.

At the previous weekend's Run, Jump, Throw Open at the EIS there was a pb for Zachary Mayers in the 60m with a time of 8.35secs, knocking a second off his previous best. Also setting a 60m pb was Ben Fogden with 7.26secs. Liz Duke set a seasons best in the 60m with 8.37secs & Francesca Mayers took part in her 1st pole vault competition, finishing with a best height of 1.50m. Ellie Oscroft was also in 60m action, running 7.99secs before setting a pb in the 200m with 25.98secs. Ben also returned to the track in the 200m, running 22.65secs. In the shot put there was a throw of 6.61m for Caroline Siderius and in the second pool of the vault Lottie Hall jumped 2.70m.

On the 5th Feb the Steel Cup for universities was held at the EIS and saw Nathan Gavaghan set a 60m pb of 7.11secs before a seasons best of 22.30secs in the 200m.

TRIPLE BRONZE AT THE NORTHERNS

Faith Baines, Tobi Duke and Kyrie Turner came away with Bronze medals from the Northern Athletics u13/15 Championships, held at the EIS in Sheffield on 2nd February. Kyrie placed 3rd in the u13 girls shot with Tobi taking 3rd place in the u13 boys long jump. In the u15 girls shot Faith threw a pb of 8.52m for her bronze, in the same competition Emily Ross took 11th place.

Tobi was also 7th in the 60m final, setting a pb of 8.67secs in his heat. Also in 60m action was Antoniah Kinsiona who was 8th in the u15 girls final and in the heats Faith Baines took 8th & Lottie Mole 4th. Lottie was also 8th in the long jump. Jessica Sanderson was 3rd in her heat of the u13 girls 60m before placing 8th in her semi final. Antoniah won her 200m heat before a 3rd place in her semi with Jess finishing 4th in her 200m heat and later in the day took a 7th place in her long jump pool. Honora Widdowson posted a pb in taking 4th place in the u15g 800m heats and then also placed 4th in her heat of the 60m hurdles.

BRITISH TITLE FOR BEER

Mark Beer took the British Masters pentathlon title in the mens over 40 category in Sheffield on 26th January. With a 9.87secs 60m hurdles, 5.77m long jump, 9.56m shot, 1.80m in the high jump & 3:37.27 in the 1000m Mark scored 2936pts to win by over 300pts.

At the previous day's Northern cross country championships Honora Widdowson was 54th in the u13 girls race.

NORTHERN TITLE FOR BETH 

The 11/12th January saw the Northern Athletics Championships for u17, u20 & Senior athletes and saw the club’s athletes win a full set of medals. In the senior women's pole vault there was a win for Beth Falconer with a jump of 3.30m.

Tyler Booth smashed his shot put pb with a best throw of 12.43m to take the u17 men's silver medal. Lottie Hall completed the set, her 2.70m taking the bronze in the u20 women's pole vault.

On the track Ellie Oscroft set a 60m pb of 7.95secs to take 2nd in her u17 women's heat. Ellie followed this up with a 7.98 (also better than her previous pb) in her semi final. A 22.68secs 200m saw Nathan Gavaghan qualify for the senior men's semi finals, where he placed 6th  with Ben Fogden narrowly missing out with 23.01secs. Ollie Dakin was in 400m action, his 52.41secs placing him 5th in his heat. Over 60m Nathan was 2nd in his heat in 7.16secs with Ben running a 7.30secs pb for 6th in his heat. Nathan was then 6th in his semi final with a seasons best of 7.13secs.

COUNTY CROSS SUCCESSES

Finlay Grant and Lyz Evans picked up silver medals at the Derbyshire Cross Country Championships at Shipley Park, Heanor on 4th January. In the senior men's race Fin took 2nd behind Chesterfield based athlete (now competing for Salford Harriers) Alex Ediker. Competing in the senior women's race Lyz was 2nd in the w65 age category. In the u11 boys race Jamie Hazlehurst finished in 12th place.

HONORA TAKES MINI LEAGUE TITLE

Match 3 of the Derbyshire Mini League cross country saw Honora Widdowson claim the overall u13 girl's title with a 3rd place finish to add to her 1st and 2nd in the first 2 matches. Philip Grzelak took 9th in the u13 boys race with the u11 boys team of Kobi Barraclough (6th), Jamie Hazlehurst (8th) & Bertie Smith (10th) finishing 3rd on the day.

TRIPLE GOLD AT BRITISH MASTERS 

Liz Duke dominated the sprints at the British Master Championships in Derby on 26-28th July. Competing in the W45 category Liz took the 100m title in 13.41secs, the 200m in 27.13secs & the 400m in 60.12secs.

NORTHERN CHAMPIONSHIPS

There was a great turn out of club athletes at the Northern Athletics u13/15/17 Championships held in Derby on 10/11th August. Emily Ross took the u13 girls shot put silver with a pb of 8.25m with Kyrie Turner in the bronze medal position, also throwing a pb of 7.52m. Tobi Duke was an agonising 4th in the u13 boys long jump where Philip Grzelak was 15th & Oscar Siderius 16th.

Ellie Oscroft was 5th in the u17 women's 100m final, a position shared by Bella Egley in the u13 girls 100m. Also in action in the u13 girls 100m were Emily Hayter who ran a pb of 14.29secs, Molly White who also set a pb of 14.11secs and Jessica Sanderson who ran 14.64secs. Molly & Emily both qualified for the semi finals. Bella was also 5th in the 200m final having set a pb of 28.47secs for 2nd place in her heat. Molly was 5th in her heat with another pb, 30.36secs, with Jessica & Emily finishing 7th & 6th in their respective heats. Ellie also took 6th in the u17w 200m final having set a pb of 25.77secs in her heat. Also in the u17w 200m heats Emme Devine set a seasons best of 27.99secs. Antoniah was 5th in her heat of the u15g 200m before setting a pb of 27.52secs for 3rd in her semi final.

Zachary Mayers ran a pb in the u15 boys 100m heats, his 13.54secs placing him 6th. In the u17 men's 100m heats there was a pb for Aaron Kurian with 11.97secs placing him 6th. Another with a 100m pb was Antonia Kinsiona with 13.23secs which placed her 2nd in her heat before placing 5th in her semi final. In the u13 girls 800m Honora Widdowson set a pb, 2:40.48, with Philip Grzelak also setting a pb in the u13 boys 800m and finishing one place ahead of Oscar Siderius. Marianna Owen was 6th in the u15 girls 1500m.

In the u13 girls long jump Emily was 10th with a pb of 3.74m, Jessica 12th, Honora 15th & Francesca Mayers 17th. Aaron Kurian equalled his pb of 5.81m for 8th place in the u17 men's LJ. Tyler Booth took 4th place in the u17 men's shot and 7th in the discus. In the u13 boys shot Philip threw a pb of 4.62m & Mazie Taylor took 12th in the u15 girls shot. Emily Ross stepped up to the u15 age group to take 9th in the discus and 8th in the javelin. Ashton Pickering had his first competition in the hammer, finishing in 5th place before setting a pb for 6th in the javelin with 39.29m. Zac Booth was also in javelin action, taking 9th place in the u15 boys event.

ENGLISH SCHOOLS

The English Schools Track & Field Championships were held in Birmingham on 12/13th July and saw 3 of the club's athletes competing for Derbyshire. In the Inter Girls 200m Ellie Oscroft finished 7th in her heat in 26.49secs. Marianna Owen was 10th in her heat of the Junior Girls 1500m in a time of 4:56.29. Lottie Hall competed in the Senior Girls javelin where she finished 13th with a best throw of 34.06m.

NORTHERN TITLE FOR BETH

8/9th June saw the Northern Senior & u20 Championships held in Middlesbrough where Beth Falconer took the senior women's pole vault title with a best height of 3.20m. Also in action was Nathan Gavaghan in the senior men's 100m, running 11.29secs for 3rd in his heat before finishing 6th in his semi final.
