MINI LEAGUE MATCH 1 DETAILS

The 1st match of the Derbyshire Mini League takes place at Moorways, Derby on Saturday 25th April. The first events are at 10am with the match finishing at around 2pm with the relays.

All u12, 14 & 16 athletes currently training with us are invited to compete. Team managers are circulating emails, if you haven't had one please contact us at secretarycdac1@gmail.com and we'll put you in touch with the correct person.

NATIONAL SPORTSHALL FINAL

There was a 3rd place finish for the Derbyshire u15 girls team in Stoke on 11th April helped by the excellent 1-2 placing in the 2 Lap by Antonia Kinsiona & Lottie Mole. Antonia was also 2nd in the standing long jump, with Lottie 5th, and they were 18th & 21st respectively in the speed bounce.

There was a win for Kyrie Turner in the shot for the u13 girls team which finished in 7th place. Ruby Thomson & Jessica Sanderson were 17th & 18th in the 2 Lap and Martha Smith was 7th in the 4 Lap where Ellie Madin was 18th. Francesca Mayers was 14th in the speed bounce, Ruby was 9th in the vertical jump with Jess 12th and in the standing triple jump Martha was 14th.

EUROPEAN MASTERS CHAMPIONSHIPS 

Mark Beer took 5th place in the M45 pentathlon at the European masters indoor champs in Torun, Poland on 30th March. Mark's score of 3409 points was a seasons best, bettering his score set when winning the British Masters title in Cardiff on 24th January. Also this winter Mark took the m45 Scottish heptathlon title on 28 Feb/1st March.

SPORTSHALL TITLE

Congratulations to all of our athletes who have competed over the 6 matches at this winter's Sportshall fixtures which has led to us taking the title. We also posted wins in all 6 age groups. At the final match of the season, on Sunday 15th March, there was a league record for Antoniah Kinsiona in the u15 girls 2 Lap. Emily Hayter was 3rd in the 2 Lap & Antoniah also won the Standing Long Jump (SLJ) where Ruby Whelpton was 3rd. Over 4 Laps Ruby & Emily Ross were 2nd & 3rd with Emily winning the shot with Ava Agutter 2nd. There was also a 3rd place for Antoniah in the speed bounce (SB).

Zac Booth won the u15 boys shot & Zachary Mayers took runer up spots in the 2 Lap, SLJ and SB. Zac was 3rd in the 2 Lap & 4th in the SLJ. Edward Thorpe won the u13 boys SB with Christopher Devine 2nd & in the shot Philip Grzelak and Edward were 3rd & 4th. Kobi Barraclough & Oscar Siderius teamed up to win the 8 Lap Parlauf & Edward was 2nd in the SLJ where Isaac Hollamby was 4th. Alexander Ganecki & Kobi Barraclough placed 3rd & 5th in the 2 Lap.

Ellie Madin & Martha Smith teamed up to win the u13 girls Parlauf with Martha also =1st in the 2 lap where Francesca Mayers was 3rd. Kyrie Turner won the shot with Coral Wilson 3rd, Coral won the SB with Francesca 2nd. Francesca also took 2nd in the SLJ where Martha was 4th.

Evelyn Perryman & Leah Hill shared 1st place in the u11g 1 Lap with Ella Pudil taking top spot in the 3 Lap with Isla Gilbert 2nd. Elias Jones was 2nd in the u11b 1 Lap with Rafe Cooper =3rd and in the 3 lap Michael Amadi & Elias were 2nd and 3rd. Michael & Ben Cowley won the SLJ & SB respectively, Rafe was 2nd in the SLJ & Bram Hills 2nd in the SB. Zac Maddison was 2nd in the Hi-Stepper with Brady Cresswell 3rd & for the girls Evelyn and Thea Dias were 3rd & 4th. Ella took 2nd in the SLJ where Eleanor Siderius was 4th & Isla and Leah were 2nd and 3rd in the SB.

REGIONAL SPORTSHALL FINALS
At the East Midlands regional finals in Grantham on 8th February both the Derbyshire u13 & u15 girls teams won and sealed their places in the National Finals. Antoniah Kinsiona was 2nd in the u15 girls all-rounder competition with her winning the 2 Lap and Standing Long Jump (SLJ) with Lottie Mole taking 2nd places in both those events. Emily Hayter was 9th in the 4 Lap and the SLJ and 6th in the Speed Bounce (SB) where Antoniah was 8th. Lottie also finished 12th in the shot.
Kyrie Turner won the u13 girls Shot with Francesca Mayers taking 3rd in the SB. Martha Smith & Ellie Madin were 3rd & 4th in the 4 Lap with Martha also taking 3rd in the STJ. Jess Sanderson & Ruby Thomson were =5th in the 2 Lap with Jess 3rd & Ruby 4th in the Vertical Jump (VJ).
The club had 2 representatives in the u15 boys events, Zac Booth was 3rd in the STJ, 5th in the 2 Lap & 7th in the shot with Zachary Mayers 6th in the 4 Lap, 7th in the SLJ & 4th in the SB. For the u13 boys Benjamin Barfoot was 2nd over 6 Laps where Rupert Haslam was 5th. In the shot Ben Ruttle was 3rd with Benjamin & Chris Devine 2nd and 3rd in the SB and Alex Ganecki 8th in the VJ.
The u11's Fun in Athletics competition sees a number of relay events in addition to individual events. We were well represented in these with Leah Hill, Evelyn Perryman, Lily Rogers, Ella Pudil, Isla Gilbert & Nouelle-Soul Foster Applewhite selected for the Derbyshire girls team and Harry Smith, Rafe Cooper, Michael Amadi, Zac Maddison, Brady Cresswell & Sam Lees for the boys. There were wins for Lily in the Balance Test, Ella with the Indoor Javelin and Michael in the Chest Push. It was a busy weekend for Antoniah who had competed in the 60m at the England Athletics Championships in Sheffield the previous day with a 7.95secs heat, in which she finished 4th, qualifying her for the semi-finals in which she was 6th in 7.90secs. Bella Egley competed in the u15 girls 300m, a 42.6 in her heat saw her qualify for the final where she was 6th in 44.02secs.

As a club, the safety and well-being of our athletes is a top priority. With this in mind, we kindly ask that any athletes under the age of 16 are accompanied by an adult, both to the registration area, and to the outdoor meeting area at the start of training. Athletes under 16 also need to be picked up by an adult at the outdoor meeting area at the end of training. This is an England Athletics requirement under their safeguarding policy. We understand that this may be an inconvenience, especially for the older teenagers, however, it is our duty to ensure athletes safety and we ask for your support in this.

NORTHERN JUNIOR CHAMPIONSHIPS

Lottie Mole leapt to the u15g long jump title in Sheffield on 1st Feb. Lottie's jump of 5.08m was also a pb. Ruby Thomson equalled her pb of 1.35m in the high jump to take the silver medal in the u13g high jump. There were bronze medals for Maya Zuccolo in the u15g pole vault & Kyrie Turner in the u15g shot with Emily Ross taking 4th in the shot with a pb.

Jessica Sanderson was 5th in the u15g high jump, with a pb of 1.45m. Ruby took 5th places in the 60m & 200m finals and there were 4th places for Oscar Melen in the u15b shot & Lucas Melen in the u13b shot. Bella Egley made the semi-finals of both the 60m & 200m, Martha Smith ran pb's in both events, as did Benjamin Barfoot in the u15b sprints. There was also a pb for Jessica in the 60m heats before she took 6th in her 60m hurdles heat. Lucas also finished 10th in the 800m.

NORTHERN CHAMPIONSHIPS

There were a number of medals for the club's athletes at the Northern Athletics u17/20/senior Champs in Sheffield on 10/11th January. Kicking things off was Antoniah Kinsiona in the u17 women's 60m, re-setting her pb twice on her way to the final where she again set a pb of 7.79secs for the silver medal. Also in 60m action was Zachary Mayers who set a pb of 8.21secs in the u17 men's 60 m heats. Ellie Oscroft made the u20 women's 60m semi finals where she was 8th before returning on day 2 in the 200m where she was 3rd in her heat. Ollie Dakin was 3rd in his heat of the men's 400m.

Beth Falconer took the silver medal in the women's pole vault and Jeanie Cadman took 4th in the u17 women's vault in a new pb of 2.40m. Ezra Adetunji snatched the bronze medal with his final round jump in the u20 men's long jump in which Aaron Kurian was 7th and in the u17 women's triple jump Freya Curtis finished 7th. Faith Baines took 9th place in the u17 women's shot.

COUNTY CROSS COUNTRY RESULTS 

There was a flurry of medals in wintery conditions at the Derbyshire Cross Country Championships on 3rd January. In the first race of the day Lily Rogers picked up a silver, finishing just 2 seconds behind the winner, with Edith Martin in 4th.

In the senior women's race Lyz Evans finished 49th overall but won the w65 category. Francesca Mayers took 9th place in the u13 girls race & in the u15 girls event there was a 6th place for Honora Widdowson.

In the u13 boys race there was a team silver medal behind Derby AC; Joseph Bond was 6th, Oscar Siderius 11th, Lucas Melen 13th & Jacob Campbell 14th.

MINI CROSS COUNTRY LEAGUE

The final match of the Derbyshire Mini XC League took place at Moorways, Derby on 13th December. In the u11 girls race there was a 7th place for Lily Rogers with Edith Martin in 11th & for the u13 boys Lucas Melen and Oscar Siderius were 9th and 10th.

NORTHERN XC RELAYS

There was some excellent racing from the club's athletes at Graves Park in Sheffield on 18th Oct. In the u13 girls race the trio of Martha Smith, Francesca Mayers and Ruby Thomson were 27th with the boys 37th; Kobi Barraclough, Oscar Siderius & Philip Grzelak. Unfortunately our u11 girls team was incomplete but congratulations to Lily Rogers & Nouelle Foster Applewhite who completed the first 2 legs for us.

NORTHERN ROAD RELAYS 

The club fielded u13 teams at the Northern Athletics road relays at a very wet Leigh on 20th Sept. Strong lead off legs from Philip Grzelak & Martha Smith were followed by Oscar Siderius & Kobi Barraclough for the boys and Francesca Mayers & Ellie Madin for the girls. The boys placed 40th of 50 teams & the girls a superb 33rd out of 46.

NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIPS 

At the Scottish senior champs in Grangemouth on 23/24th August a bronze medal was won by Beth Falconer in the women's pole vault with a height of 3.20m. Antoniah Kinsiona was 6th in her 100m heat at the England Athletics u15/17 champs in Birmingham on 8-10th August. At the EA u20/senior champs in Birmingham, 25-27th July, Nathan Gavaghan took 7th place in his 400m heat.

MINI LEAGUE FINALE

A win at the last Derbyshire Mini League wasn't enough to overhaul Amber Valley & Erewash AC who hung on to take the title by a single league point.

There were double wins in the u11 girls events, Leah Hill in the 75m and 150m & for Isla Gilbert in the 600m and long jump. Lily Rogers took 2nd places in the 75m & 600m with Nouelle-Soul Foster Applewhite taking 5th in the longer sprint. In the long jump Leah finished 1cm behind Isla and in the howler Lily & Nouelle were 4th and 5th respectively. Also competing for the u11 girls were Maria Anna Makri, Eve Hanson, Thea Dias & Edith Martin. Harry Smith & Alexander Gray were 4th & 7th in the u11 boys 75m, harry took 3rd over 150m with Rafe Cooper in 6th & Jamie Hazlehurst was 6th in the 600m. In the howler Alexander & Rafe were 5th & 6th.

Jacob Campbell & Benjamin Ruttle were 1-2 in the u13 boys hurdles. Benjamin went on to win the shot, where Alfie Wearing was 3rd, with Alfie going on to win the javelin where Benjamin was 3rd. Benji Barfoot took wins in the 100m and 200m & Tobi Duke took first place in the long jump, where Benji was 3rd. Rupert Haslam was 3rd in the 100m and the 1500m, Tobi was 3rd in the 200m & Oscar Siderius 4th over 1500m.

Gabriella Whelpton & Francesca Mayers were the top 2 in the u13 girls javelin and in the shot Coral Wilson took 3rd with Gabriella 5th. On the track Martha Smith won the 100m & Jessica Sanderson the 200m. Francesca was 5th over 100m with Martha 2nd over 200m, Martha also took 3rd in the 1500m. Jessica was 2nd in the hurdles and high jump, Francesca placed 3rd in the hurdles with Gabriella 7th in the high.

There was a triple win for Emily Ross in the u15 girls shot, discus and javelin. Bella Egley took the sprint double (100 & 300m) with Freya Curtis 5th in both sprints. Evie Curtis was 2nd in the hurdles. Sophie Kelley took 2nd in the shot, Mia Chadbourne did likewise in the discus & in the javelin Sophie was 5th. In the long jump there was a 3rd place for Sophie with Evie 5th. Zac Booth won the u15 boys hurdles, 2nd in the javelin and 4th in the shot. Zach Mayers and Freddie Elsmore were 4th & 5th in the 100m, Zach was also 4th in the high jump & 6th over 300m.

YDL LOWER PROMOTION

At Doncaster on 20th July our young athletes sealed promotion back to the Premier Division of the Lower YDL. Oscar Melen won the u15 boys shot. Zac Booth & Oscar won the A & B javelin and Zac was 2nd in both the hurdles & long jump (where he pb'd). Oscar also took a 2nd place in the discus.

Alfie Wearing & Lucas Melen won the u13 boys javelin A & B. Benjamin Barfoot won the high jump, with Edward Thorpe taking 2nd in the B, and Benjamin took 3rd place in the 75m & 2nd over 150m with Tobi Duke placing 2nd in the B race over the shorter distance before winning the B of the longer sprint. Over 800m Oscar Siderius & Nathan Pheonix placed 5th in the A and B & there was a 4th place for Kobi Barraclough over 1200m. Edward was 2nd in the hurdles with Kobi winning the B race. Tobi & Kobi were 2nd in their long jumps, as were Nathan & Alfie Wearing in their shot events with Nathan throwing a pb.

There was a win for Jessica Sanderson in the u13 girls 70mH, Lena Frederick took 2nd in the B. Jessica, with a pb, and Ruby Thomson won the high jumps & there was a 3rd place for Ruby in the 75m where Gabi Whelpton took 4th in the B race. Jessica & Martha Smith were 3rd in the 150m races. Lena ran a pb in the 800m, taking 4th place, and Martha also set a new pb in taking second place over 1200m. Martha took 3rd in the long jump with Lena 2nd in the B & Ruby was 3rd in the shot where Gabi was 2nd in the B before taking 4th in the javelin.

Beth Galletly & Evie Curtis won the u15 girls high jumps, Honora Widdowson & Catrin Hughes did likewise in the hurdles races, as did Faith Baines & Sophie Kelley in the shot and Catrin & Faith in the discus. Faith & Niamh Kilroy won the hammers too. Antoniah Kinsiona won the u15 girls 100m with Lottie Mole taking 2nd in the B. Over 200m Bella Egley took 2nd in the A with Antoniah winning the B. In the 300m Emily Hayter was 4th in the B & Ruby Whelpton ran a pb for 3rd in the B. Honora was 2nd in the 800m with Beth winning the B & in the 1500m both Catrin & Niamh ran pb's, both placing 3rd. Maya Zuccolo was 2nd in the pole vault & Lottie and Freya Curtis were also 2nd in their long jump pools. Niamh & Beth set javelin pb's for 2nd & 1st in the A & B respectively.

NORTHERN LEAGUE PROMOTION

The final Northern league match took place on 2nd August in Cudworth with a 3rd place finish on the day clinching the Division 2 East title by 5 points.

Ezra Adetunji jumped over 6m for the first time in winning the long jump with 6.09m. Ezra also took 2nd in the 100m B race, in the A string Nathan Gavaghan took top honours before going on to win the 200m by over 2 seconds. Ollie Dakin won the 400m, also winning the 200m B, and Thomas Marriott won the B 400m.

Steve Gascoyne was 6th over 800m before going on to take 4th places in both the 5000m and 1500m. Steve also won the B triple jump with Dan Burdett taking 2nd in the B having already won the shot and discus. Rebecca Wardle and Kerry Baker won the A & B javelins with Rebecca also taking 2nd places in the shot, discus and hammer. Caroline Siderius won the B discus and took 2nd in the B string shot.

ENGLISH SCHOOLS SCORCHERS

The weather was hot and the performances equally so for those Chesterfield & District athletes selected to compete for Derbyshire at the English Schools in Birmingham on 11/12th July. Antoniah Kinsiona made the Junior girls 100m final, running a pb of 12.45secs for 2nd in her heat before placing 8th in the final.

Lottie Mole jumped 5.01m in the Junior girls long jump for 10th place and in the discus Emily Ross placed 17th. Ellie Oscroft was 4th in the Inter girls 200m heat & Bella Egley was just outside her best time in the Junior girls 300m, finishing 7th in her heat. There was also a 12th place for Lottie Hall in the Senior girls javelin.

NORTHERN CHAMPS MEDALS

Chesterfield athletes plundered a number of medals at the Northern Athletics Senior & u20 Championships in Derby on 28/29th June. Beth Falconer won the senior women's pole vault with a jump on 3.10m. Nathan Gavaghan took an excellent bronze in the senior men's 400m running 48.82 secs. There was also a bronze for Josh Turkington in the senior men's javelin, with a throw of 46.26m. Nathan was also in 200m action, with a 22.80secs for 5th in his heat.

NORTHERN U13/15/17 CHAMPS

A number of the club's athletes competed at the Northern Athletics Championships in Liverpool on 7/8th June with Tobi Duke coming away with the bronze medal in the u13 boys long jump with a leap of 4.43m.

Ellie Oscroft took 6th place in the u17 women's 100m final & was 5th over 200m. In the u15 girls 200m Bella Egley was 8th in the final, having finished 2nd in her heat & 5th in the semi final. Benjamin Barfoot was 7th in the u13 boys 100m final having qualified with a 2nd place in his heat. Tobi took 6th place in his 100m heat. Lottie Mole took 2nd in her heat of the u15 girls 100m before placing 4th in her semi final and Faith Baines was 6th in her heat. Lottie also took 8th in the long jump & Faith was 7th with a pb in the shot, 8th in the hammer and 10th in the discus.

Zachary Mayers was 6th in his heat of the u15 boys 100m, as was Francesca Mayers in the u13 girls event. Zachary was also 5th in his 200m heat & Francesca 14th in the long jump. In the u13 boys 200m Tobi & Benjamin were 4th & 5th respectively in their heats. Honora Widdowson was 7th in her heat of the u15 girls 75m hurdles and was 6th in her 800m heat. Beth Galletly ran a pb for 8th place in her 800m heat & was also 8th in the high jump. Emily Ross took 7th place in the u15 girls discus, was 12th in the shot and 10th in the hammer.

COUNTY CHAMPS & QUADKIDS

At the Derbyshire County Championships in Mansfield on 10/11th May, a plethora of medals were won by the club's athletes as well as some Championship Records set. Liz Duke set a new CBP in the Masters women 100m, as did Mark Beer in the Masters men PV & Caroline Siderius in the Masters women shot.

Sunday 11th saw the Derbyshire u11 Quadkids event take place in Mansfield. Lily Rogers was crowned the girls champion, just ahead of Leah Hill who took silver. In the boys competition there was a bronze for Harry Smith. All athletes took part in a 75m sprint, 600m run, the long jump & the howler. Also competing were Archie Brooks, who was 5th, Olivia Marsh & Evelyn Perryman, who were 4th & 5th, and Edith Martin who took 8th place.
