30th Anniversary Year 1978 - 2008 WE HAVE RELOCATED In the year that we will celebrate our 30th anniversary, the Club has moved its summer HQ from Queen's Park Annexe athletic track, where it started, to a new floodlit all-weather facility at Tupton Hall School, Station New Rd, Tupton, S42 6LG, commencing with OUR first outdoor training session on Tuesday 1 April at 6.30pm. Whilst not up to full competition standard, the track will be a major improvement on the forty-five year old Annexe which is prone to flooding after heavy rain. Previous Monday Academy sessions will be discontinued as this group will be catered for on Tuesday and Thursday nights. The club will continue to honour its club/schools link commitments to the Chesterfield Schools' Sports Partnership, and will be looking to enter into a similar arrangement with the equivalent NE Derbyshire group. The club expects to form a strong working relationship with Tupton Hall, which has Sports College status, and is the largest secondary school by roll number in the County. (21/5/08) LEE PETERS, TOP JAVELIN COACH, has been booked, under the England Athletics 'Flying Coaches' scheme, to deliver specialist javelin sessions each Thursday from 17 July until 21 August, inclusive of both dates, as a part of our normal sessions. Attendance by invitation only, and interested athletes should contact Richard Pentin, Coaching Co-ordinator, direct at richard.pentin@tiscali.co.uk to reserve a place. Normal £2.00 session fee applies. England Athletics has just advised us that the cost of an athlete's competition licence has increased from £3.00 to £5.00. The Club had only allowed for the old rate when setting the 2008-9 subscriptions at the 2007 AGM, and, therefore, has no alternative but to collect an extra £2.00 from all members as from 1 April for this calendar year, making the amounts payable: U15s - £10.00, U17s & unwaged concessions - £13.00, all over 17yrs £17.00, family membership £43.00. Points are awarded at each match for officials provided by the clubs, so it is essential that we have enough available at each one. If you are interested in becoming an official, or in upgrading your current qualification, please check out the England Athletics (East Midlands) website for details of course dates. The club will reimburse course fees upon successful completion. Anyone can do it! All our current officials started out as complete novices. To register your interest please speak to Richard Pentin or Frank Gorman at training. (21/05/08) NEW ADDITION TO CLUB KIT. In response to members' requests, we are now stocking the new Prostar Hurricane Rainjacket in navy/royal blue, with the Club name printed on the back panel and embroidered on the left breast, in the following chest sizes: 28/30 and 30/32 @ £17.00 each, and 32/34, 34/36, 38/40, 42/44 and 46/48 @ £21.00 each. Please ask in the clubhouse at any training session. (21/05/08) COMPETING FOR THE CLUB. It is a condition of Club membership that athletes attending training sessions are expected to compete for the Club when selected to do so, and athletes/parents agreed to this when first joining. In view of the large numbers training, and the smaller numbers competing, your Committee will be comparing names of those attending training sessions with the names of those representing the Club in actual competition, with a view to identifying the athletes who appear to have difficulty in turning out, so that Team Managers can discuss any problems they may have.
